New Beginnings
As we move into June, the Great Crested Grebes are now shepherding their young along the lake. This is the second movie in the series cataloguing the behaviour of three pairs of Grebes at a local fishing lake, close to home. Newly hatched Great Crested grebe chicks are striped, fluffy, and able to swim almost immediately, although they tire quickly. Their attentive parents protect them constantly, carrying them on their backs to keep them warm, safe, and hidden from predators. After about three weeks they become more independent, but always remain close to their parents.
